Cartografías fragmentarias, políticas editoriales y mapas performativos: El "hallazgo" holandés y la expedición de los hermanos Nodal (1616-1621)

El artículo examina la producción y circulación de relatos e imágenes cartográficas en el contexto del cruce holandés del estrecho de Le Maire (1616) y la expedición de reconocimiento organizada poco después por la Corona española (1618- 1619). La circulación de información geográfica a nivel global, el papel del libro impreso y las áreas representadas en los mapas holandeses y españoles evidencian que, entre 1616 y 1621, los discursos y representaciones del área magallánico-fueguina fueron objeto de constante redefinición. En relación con las ambiciones geopolíticas de holandeses y españoles, el artículo aborda aspectos poco frecuentados de sus estrategias editoriales y producciones cartográficas.
The article examines the production and circulation of travel accounts and cartographic images in light of the Dutch crossing of the Le Maire Strait (1616) and the expedition organized shortly after by the Spanish Crown (1618-1619). The circulation of geographical information, the role of the printed book and the represented areas in the Dutch and Spanish maps of the period evidence that, between 1616 and 1621, the discourses and representations of the Magellanic-Fuegian area were constantly redefined. Regarding the geopolitical ambitions of the United Provinces and the Spanish crown, the article addresses less explored aspects of their publishing strategies and cartographic productions.
