Descripción
Data base from a pruning and thinning trial of Pinus taeda L., located in the Iguazú Department, province of Misiones, Argentina was used to established the relationship among annual basal area increment and stand variables. Annual basal area increment was successfully explained by green crown length, so it was included in the model, as it did the variable that described heavy pruning in stands with high stockings. Diameter at breast height (d.b.h), height ratio, tree spacing in relation with total height, green crown length of the mean tree in relation with the height of the crown base and the age were other variables that contributed to the basal area prediction. The fited model for annual basal area increment prediction for pruned and thinned stands, in the site under study, was tested against an independent sample and the mean estimation error was -0.035 m2/ha.
