Argentina: current status, innovations and challenges of the cotton sector

Cotton production in Argentina remains a relevant activity for the regional economies of the northern part of the country. Despite its strong geographical concentration, the sector is undergoing a process of transformation driven by technological advances, genetic improvement programs, the adoption of sustainable practices, and increasing articulation between research, extension and production actors. This article summarizes the current status of cotton production in Argentina, recent trends in crop management and technology, the main areas of scientific and technological development, the mechanisms linking research with production systems, and the medium-term strategic challenges for competitiveness and sustainability.
