De Esquilo a Peter Shaffer: modelos de liderazgo en "The gift of the Gorgon"

En la pieza "The Gift of the Gorgon", Peter Shaffer presenta la historia de un dramaturgo inglés (Edward Damson) y los hechos que llevaron a la muerte de este último. Dentro de la obra, Shaffer recurre a dos hipotextos de la literatura y mitología griega: Agamenón, de Esquilo y el mito de Perseo y Medusa. Nuestra hipótesis es que en "The Gift of the Gorgon" los hipotextos mencionados se utilizan para poner en juego el conflicto entre dos modelos de liderazgo entre los cuales se debate el protagonista de la pieza. Por medio de un análisis comparativo observamos que "The Gift of the Gorgon" muestra cómo la identificación con el Perseo heroico se vuelve imposible de sostener para el protagonista y prevalece la figura del líder fallido representado por Agamenón.
In "The Gift of the Gorgon", Peter Shaffer presents the story of an English playwright (Edward Damson) and the series of events leading to his demise. Shaffer makes use of two hypotexts taken from Greek literature and mythology: Agamennon, by Aeschylus and the myth of Perseus and Medusa. We argue that such hypotexts are used to show the conflict between two models of leadership the protagonist has to deal with. By means of a comparative analysis we demonstrate that "The Gift of the Gorgon" displays the impossibility of Edward’s identification with Perseus model and the failed leadership represents by Agamennon prevails.
