In the current context of growing environmental awareness and the need to reduce the use of petroleum-based materials, the search for more sustainable and environmentally friendly polymers has intensified. Within this framework, lignin—an abundant and renewable by-product of the pulp and paper industry—has attracted increasing attention as a functional additive for polymer matrices, particularly in blends with linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The utilization of technical lignins not only offers the possibility of reducing the environmental impact of conventional plastics but also enables the valorization of low-cost industrial residues, contributing to the development of more circular materials. This thesis investigates the incorporation of different technical lignins, both unmodified and chemically functionalized through esterification, into LLDPE formulations intended for two application fields: injection-molded products and flexible agricultural films. Throughout the study, the fundamental properties of the selected lignins are examined, together with the thermal, mechanical, and structural behavior of the resulting composite materials. In addition, complementary strategies are explored to enhance material performance, including the incorporation of inorganic fillers derived from rice husk ash and nanofillers based on nanoclays, as well as treatments using ionizing radiation. These approaches are evaluated with the aim of improving the functional characteristics of the developed materials and expanding their potential applications in more sustainable polymeric systems.
